Thanks to the efforts of our expert DAIT officers, a sex offender who denied falsely imprisoning a girl and attacking another got three years behind bars.
Following a complaint alleging a teenage girl had been wrongfully imprisoned at a home in north Essex, our Domestic Violence Investigation Team started an inquiry on January 29.
Arrested on February 1, Mamumroshid Miah refuted the claims during an interview.
Remanded into custody, the registered sex offender showed up in Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court the next day, where he entered a guilty plea to two counts of violating a Sexual Harm Prevention Order on two times – 16 December 2023 and 28 January.
Denying three more accusations, the 34-year-old Cross Road, Maldon, chose to stand trial for false imprisonment and two counts of common assault against a second teenage daughter on different days in 2023.
The jury heard during a week-long trial at Chelmsford Crown Court how Miah had stopped the child from leaving the premises and had seized her phone, therefore preventing family or friend contact. She left the following day only with his permission.
He was found guilty of the three charges at the end of the trial on Tuesday, 13 August 2024.
The following day, Miah was sentenced to three years overall for all five charges.

Miah’s coercive behaviour left his victim feeling that she had no control and made her feel isolated and scared. But she has stood up to him and exerted her independence by seeing him stand trial for his unacceptable behaviour towards her. I would commend her for taking a strong stand against such behaviour.
