A 25-year-old individual, Matthew Thompson, charged with rape and false imprisonment has been detained in custody.

Matthew Thompson, residing on Grampion Close in Ashford, is accused of raping and assaulting a lady in December.

He is also reported to have obstructed her departure as she attempted to leave the scene.

Matthew Thompson has been detained and is scheduled to appear at Canterbury Crown Court in the upcoming year.

The defendant was apprehended during an operation targeting domestic violence, according to police.

During a 16-day countywide initiative aimed at addressing domestic violence, 124 individuals were apprehended for violent acts against women or domestic abuse.

Subsequently, 68 individuals were charged, including Matthew Thompson.

Bart Hastings, 40, from Hythe Road, Dymchurch, was charged with assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, and possession of a Class B narcotic.

David Carey, 35, from Upstreet, Canterbury, was charged with assault, criminal damage, dangerous driving, and controlling or coercive behaviour.

Both individuals were detained in custody to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on January 6.

Officers collaborated with volunteers from organisations like as Rising Sun and Oasis Domestic Abuse Service, who visited police stations throughout the county to provide counsel and information to victims.

Detective Chief Superintendent Lopa McDermott stated: “Addressing violence against women and girls, as well as domestic abuse, is a priority for the police force.”

“We diligently pursue those offenders who inflict harm, while also offering year-round support to victims.”

The 16 days of action provided an opportunity to enhance awareness of gender-based violence and safeguard those most vulnerable.

“Domestic abuse and gender-based violence are inexcusable, regardless of the circumstances.”
