A Brighton delivery driver who sought to scare and buy a young child into quiet after sexually abusing him has been arrested.

After separating the minor child from his father in Lancing, 30 Nick Mesquitta of Western Street drove him to an address in Brighton on September 9, 2022 night.

Inside the property, Mesquitta sexually abused the 13-year-old lad who was under 13 at the time of the crimes. Should he tell the police, he threatened him with violence. To try to hide forensics, Mesquitta also cleaned the young lad with anti-bacterial wipes.

Saying he knew people who could hurt the young lad, Mesquitta made threats of violence and demanded he take £30 cash to seem as though nothing had happened.

Mesquitta then claimed the young lad was misbehaving on the journey home and had taken £30 from him after returning him to his father.

Shortly after returning to his home address, the young lad told his parents about the sexual attack; they then reported it to police that evening.

After being detained on September 10, 2022, Mesquite was discovered to have broken an existing Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which forbids them from contacting or being alone with anybody under the age of sixteen without consent of a parent or guardian.

Later, he was accused of encouraging a 13-year-old lad to have sex, assault by touching and breaching his SHPO.

He was remanded at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on September 12, 2022.

Mesquitta was sentenced to 13 years and six months with seven and a half years in custody and six months on extended licence at Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday, 22 August 2022.
